Remmina under CentOS 6.2

After looking for something which I could use to remotely connect to Windows Desktop I found a small piece of software which is Remmina. Before that was using a script, which was very useful, but there was missing some functionality which was important in my work. I have downloaded the Remmina (remmina-0.9.3.tar.gz) source file and also remmina plugins (remmina-plugins-0.9.2.tar.gz) from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/remmina/files/. For proper install from the source we’ll need those libs:

  • libssh-devel
  • avahi-ui-devel
  • vte-devel
  • unique-devel
  • freerdp-devel
  • rdesktop
  • libjpeg-devel
  • libxkbfile-devel

and then you’ll have to compile the remmina plugins and after that remmina main program. If everything goes ok, you will have a very nice remote desktop client 🙂

  1. Are you sure this compiles under Centos 6.2????

    checking for intltool >= 0.35.0… ./configure: line 11334: intltool-update: command not found
    found
configure: error: Your intltool is too old. You need intltool 0.35.0 or later.

  2. Forget the last message, I had not installed “intltool”

When running ./configure I’m stuck on:

    checking for REMMINA_PLUGINS… yes
    checking for remmina/plugin.h… no

Trying to speciy another directory for the includes does not seem to make any effect.

    ./configure –includedir=/home/username/Desktop/Remmina/remmina-0.9.3/include/

    1. First compile remmina-0.9.3 and then remmina-plugins, few days ago there was and update regarding the freerdp and after that the plugin regarding RDP has stop working… now I am trying to solve it. The remmina is working but without RDP plugin 🙁

  3. Hi Dominik

    Thanks for your help.

Remmina is so much better than the old VNC/RDP clients that I can not understand why there isn’t any version of Remmina packaged for stock Centos/RH, any Debian/Ubuntu has one.

    1. No problem 🙂 I am glad that I could help…
Maybe we should ask that question on CentOS forum 🙂

  4. How does one get yum to search the epel repository for freerpm?
I tried to get freerdp-devel with yum.
Google must have a thousand postings on how to set up your own
repository, not how to go to someone elses. Man yum mentions
–setopt “set arbitrary config and repo options”. Hmm. I tried
all kinds of things. In /etc/yum.conf it says one can add
repositories at the bottom. /etc/yum.repos.d/ has a lot of very
    complicated files.

On 14 march Dominik says he got this freerdp-devel from the
epel repo. It sounds like he used yum just like that. So
it must be simple to do.

How the devil does one point yum at epel?

  5. I got rammina to build via classic googling and rpm loading.
In the latest rammina 1.0 as recommended by its home page, the build
procedure has jettisoned the gnu standard so when the build failed
I reverted to 9.3.X. Rammina gui has apparently no other protocol
than SSL, which must mean a partial compile… or that I
didn’t configure some plugin right. I couldn’t find a tutorial or
notes on what to expect. If I spend any more time on this I’ll
get fired, so it’s rdesktop for now.

    D. thanks for the help even though it’s somewhat short of a success so far.
